The Minnesota Legislature continues to try to toughen the DWI laws. Bills currently pending in the Minnesota Legislature include proposals to: (1) make all first-time DWI offenders go onto Ignition Interlock for 6 months; (2) Require all persons with 3 or more DWI’s who are declared “Inimical to Public Safety” to go on Ignition Interlock for at least two years; (3) eliminate judicial review in district court for Implied Consent license revocations stemming from DWI arrests; and (4) provide for license revocations even for those drivers acquitted of DWI at trial but convicted of Careless Driving, contrary to current law.
